The government passed a law in 1996 which requires all landlords who rent part or even entire properties to have their gas appliances checked and certified, so that they can prove those same safety standards. This applies to cooking, heating and refrigeration in your home.

The logistics of gas safety
When you apply for a new tenancy or purchase a property, your home will be checked to make sure it’s safe. If everything goes well then we’ll give your tenant an official certificate that proves all appliances in their home are operating properly and can’t cause any problems with gas lines or pipes — a copy must remain within 28 days of receiving this paperwork while another one may last two years afterwards.
